What is pointillism?
During the art session this week we are having a go at pointillism. Put simply, it is creating pictures from dots of paint. It looks simple to create. However this type of art is simple to start, but difficult to perfect. Many people underestimate the beauty and complexity that this type of art can have. I personally love this type of art.
Which artists practised this type of art?
There are many, but possibly the most famous artist is Georges Seurat. He created many pictures in this style. One of his most famous pictures is The Bathers and is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathers_at_Asni%C3%A8res
You can read further about him and his art on the Tate modern site: https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/georges-seurat-1926
What type of art is pointillism?
It is really a type of post-impressionist style, because the pictures give an impression of the shapes and colours. However pictures do not show all the details.
Where can I find more information?
