Learn German with me, an online tutor
I offer German tuition to adult learners and have been doing so for a number of years now. (Despite my appearance I am in my late-30s!)
When could I do German tuition?
I am more than happy to teach at any time between 9am and 9pm weekdays. Weekends may be possible. (Obviously this is all subject to pre-existing bookings).
Early morning sessions or late evening sessions outside of those times may be possible. Please contact me for details.
Where would I learn German tuition?
German tuition is only being offered online for the foreseeable future. (This will be reviewed in 2021).
At some point in 2021 I plan to be able to travel to people for sessions (in the Fareham, Portsmouth and Southampton areas).
How would I learn?
You could learn by yourself. Alternatively you could learn with a friend (or friends) or family member(s).
How you would learn is through a mix of theory and practice. The aim is to increase your speaking confidence grow over time. We would break German down into more manageable units.
This is similar to how you learned to speak your own language. As an adult you have the key advantage of knowing your own language and its structures. With a little bit of help you could learn a foreign language.
Would I learn the German case system?
Depending on your wishes and existing ability you may touch on some aspects of the German case system. If you are just looking to learn the basics, we would look at less aspects than, say, someone wishing to work or live in Germany.
The German case system is a very important aspect of learning the German language. It tells us, for example, who did the action and who received the action. In a sentence such as ‘The tennis ball hit the man in the face’, in German it is necessary to change some words slightly to make it clear the tennis ball hit the man, rather than the man hitting the tennis ball.
Do not let the case system put you off German! The case system is fairly logical and does have a pattern, which I would be more than happy for us to go through. Rather than throwing too much information at you at once, it is normally much better to do it bit by bit during sessions.
Many books overcomplicate it, but with my help you will learn how to use the case system logically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What structure will sessions have?
It depends on what kind of a learner you are. Having said that, most people learn most effectively through a mix of theory and speaking practice.
Where do I teach?
At the moment all German tuition is online. However, tuition in person in southern Hampshire will be possible at some point in the future.
